This course is for designated workplace first aiders in the building and construction industry and is intended for those who have previously completed training in first aid, are able to demonstrate ability in delivering first aid and wish to further update their knowledge and skills. The assessments undertaken during this one day course are the same as for the two day course however the classroom learning assumes prior knowledge and experience and is delivered at a faster pace. This unit applies to all workers in a range of situations and workplace settings and contains the minimum training requirement for personnel to be designated first aiders.
Topics covered include responsibility of the first aider, infection control, bleeding and shock, angina, heart attack, fractures, soft tissue injuries, head injuries, asthma, poisoning, burns, eye injuries, safety and injury prevention.
Students will be required to demonstrate competent CPR on an adult and infant manikin, participate in two first aid scenarios, apply first aid procedures for a variety of first aid conditions and complete a written knowledge assessment.
