Mental Health First Aid is for Workplace supervisors, managers and first aid officers.
Mental Health First Aid Course Overview
This internationally recognised course is based on the International Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) guidelines. The content of this program includes: Mental health problems in Australia, Mental health first aid, understanding of the common mental health conditions e.g. depression, anxiety, psychosis, substance use problems. First aid for mental health crises is taught along with how to assist colleagues, direct reports or others in the workplace that may have developed a mental health illness or are experiencing a mental health crisis, where to direct the person to seek help, (this may be your own employee assistance programs or broader professional programs such as Beyond Blue) and what to say – how to have “The Conversation”.
Developing mental health problems covered are: depression, anxiety problems, psychosis, substance use problems.
Mental health crisis situations covered are: suicidal thoughts and behaviours, non-suicidal self-injury (sometimes called deliberate self-harm), panic attacks, traumatic events, severe effects of drug or alcohol use, severe psychotic states, aggressive behaviours.
Participants will receive a MHFA manual and a MHFA Certiﬁcate upon completion.
