Qualified tradespeople wanting to apply for Domestic Builder (Limited) registration.
This course is also suitable for builders, project managers, site managers, forepersons, construction managers and other building practitioners who prepare permits, contracts and schedule labour and materials.
The Trades Registration (Domestic) course outlines:
- how to manage the building permit application process, including the required documentation and current regulatory and planning processes,
- how to select and prepare construction contracts,
- how to produce a schedule of resource requirements for materials and labour, and
- how to record and track costs.
This course covers the main additional units of competency, as outlined in the Building Regulations 2018, as prescribed qualifications required for registration.
The Victorian Building Authority (VBA) will consider this as part of a broader examination of the applicant’s knowledge and experience. For more information on Victorian builder registration, visit www.vba.vic.gov.au.

Mode of Delivery
This course is delivered in a blended mode with face-to-face classes and assessments to be submitted online on the learning management system.
Due to the accelerated nature of this course, it is recommended that students have at least three years experience in the building and construction industry.
Students that complete this course will gain skills and knowledge on the following topics:
- arrange building and planning permits
- prepare a construction contract
- produce labour and material schedules
- monitor project costs
Successful students who only undertake this short course will be issued with a Statement of Attainment by Master Builders Association of Victoria.
